[Protectorate of Menoth Turn 1]

Each 'jack received one Focus for running, all the infantry ran as well. Kreoss cast ‹ Inviolable Resolve › on the Choir unit with the heavies and ‹ Sacrosanct › on the Knights Exemplar.

[Circle Oboros Turn 1]

Kromac cast ‹ Inviolable Resolve › on Megalith, ‹ Wild Aggression › on the Warpwolf Stalker and finally ‹ Warpath › .

The Feral warped ‹ Ghostly › , was forced to run and riled for one point of Fury.

The Pureblood warped ‹ Ghostly › , was forced to run and riled for one point of Fury.

Megalith was forced to run and riled for one point of Fury.

The Stalker was forced to run as well.

The Stones and the Bloodtracker were placed / ran forward as well.

[Protectorate of Menoth Turn 2]

Kreoss upkept ‹ Sacrosanct › but let go of ‹ Inviolable Resolve › . The Reckoner was assigned 2 points of Focus, the Revenger 1.

After the Choir blessed the Reckoner with the ‹ Hymn of Battle › , he advanced and fired on the Pureblood with a boosted hit and boosted damage roll which caused 6 points of damage and reduced the DEF of the 'beast by 2 due to ‹ Flare › .

One of the Vassals advanced and allowed the Reckoner a second shot using ‹ Ancillary Attack › . This time the Reckoner scored a critical hit which left the Pureblood burning.

The Choir charged the Bloodtrackers (even killing one) positioning themselves as a screen for the Exemplars, which advanced behind them. The Revenger run forward as well, allowing Kreoss the channel ‹ Cleansing Fire › through him on the Bloodtrackers. Due to ‹ Stealth › and a choosen target which was to far away, the template deviated harmlessly.

[Circle Turn 2]

The fire continuous effect on the Pureblood did not expire and caused 4 points of damage on Body, which crippled it.

Kromac upkept all spells.

The Warp Wolf Stalker charged (for free due to ‹ Wild Aggression › ) the Revenger with warped strength. The first attack crippled the left arm, negating the push back from the Repulsor Shield. The second inital attack crippled the right arm and the movement system. With an additional attack the Revenger was wrecked. This triggered a 3" movement due to ‹ Warpath › which Bernd applied to the Stalker, who advanced and killed one chorister.

Kromak advanced and healed the Pureblood for three points of damage, uncrippling the Body aspect.

The Bloodtracker advanced and engaged the Knights and the Choir.

mediaobject

[Circle Turn 2]

After the attack and using ‹ Reform › , the situation looked like this, with four choristers and two Knights dead. The two dead Knights caused two Bloodtracker to be knocked down due to ‹ Sacrosanct › on the Knights.

mediaobject

[Circle Turn 2]

Megalith charged the Reckoner. He caused 8 damage with his charge attack, again 8 damage with the secon initial attack (boosted damage, crippling the right arm). With an additional attack and 5 points of damage the left arm got crippled and with an final additonal attack Megalith caused another 2 points of damage.

The Shifting Stones placed the Feral forward to a position between the Reckoner and the Castigator. The Feral then warped Strength and attacked the Castigator, biting him for 6 points of damage. The clawas each caused 3 points of damage. Following up with 4 additonal attacks, the Feral caused just enough damage to wreck the Castigator.

The Pureblood warped Strength as well and slammed the Reckoner, but missed with a double 1 an otherwise sure hit.

[Protectorate of Menoth Turn 3]

Kreoss did not upkeep ‹ Sacrosanct › and allocated three Focus to the Reckoner. Kreoss advanced, drew one Focus from a Wrack (which did not explode) and cast ‹ Chasten › twice on the Stalker. The first attempt missed, the second caused 3 damage with a boosted to hit roll. This caused ‹ Wild Aggression › to expire. Then he feated.

The Vassal Mechanik advanced and repaired the Reckoner's right arm (3 points).

One of the Vassals advanced and targeted the Stalker with an ‹ Arcane Bolt › but missed him.

Then the Knights and the Choir (well their leader, everyone else had already died in the glorious name of Menoth) retaliated against the Bloodtrackers. The Choir Leader advanced and courageously engaged two Bloodtracker, but unfortunately was not able to hit or wound them.

The Knights fared much better, most were able to engage two targets with the additional attack granted by Kreoss' Feat. Also due to the Feat they hit automatically which meant the Bloodtrackers were auto dead. They killed a total of 6 Bloodtrackers, which failed their command check.

They also cleared the way for the Reclaimer to charge the Stalker. Having his maximum number of Soultokens accumulated and an additional attack from the Feat, he dealt a total of 13 points of damage ( 0 dam, boosted 3 dam, additional boosted 6 dam, additional boosted 4 dam). Also, he left the Beast burning.

[Protectorate of Menoth Turn 3]

On the other flank, also the Choir made the beginning by charging. Three attacked the Feral, one attacked Megalith and at the same time placed himself together with the leader (who had no target) as blockers for lanes to Kreoss. On the Feral, the Choristers caused 10 points of damage (4, 2 and 4). The Megalith did not even notice the efforts on him.

The Hierophant also charged the Megalith and positioned him in a blocking position, he also could have spared the effort lashing out at the Warbeast.

The second Vassal Mechanik used ‹ Ancillary › on the Reckoner who caused 8 points of damage on the Feral, crippling his Mind aspect.

Before the 'beast could revover, the Exemplar Bastions charged, one contacting the Feral. Only one of the Bastion was able to contact, rolling a massive four dice of damage, exactly dealing the 10 points of damage the Feral had left - and still having a second attack available. On the other side of the building, his colleague pounded a Shifting Stone to dust.

Finally, the Reckoner let loose with his Consecrator on the Pureblood. With 9, 6 and 4 damage, the Pureblood joined the fate of the Feral. The last two attacks on Megalith caused 5 and 3 points of damage, but had no lasting effect.

Overview of battlefield at the end of turn 3.

[Circle Oboros Turn 3]

The fire continous effect on the Stalker did not expire, but did not cause any damage.

Kromak did not upkeep any spells. He advanced and cast ‹ Wild Aggression › on the Stalker. Then he cast ‹ Rift › on the Hierophant. He caused 3 points of damage on him, 1 point of damage on the Vassal and killed two members of the Choir unit.

Needing more Fury, Kromac popped his veins... ah... Feat. Suffering 7 points if damage, he gained 7 more points of Fury.

Immediately, he cast a second ‹ Rift › on the Hierophant. To make sure the faithful disciple of Menoth left Caen, he boosted the to hit roll. Both, on the Hierophant and the Vassal, Kromac also boosted the damage rolls, killing both.

mediaobject

[Circle Oboros Turn 3]

Megalith moved to engage Kreoss. This allowed the Reckoner a free strike, which caused 12 points of damage and crippled the Mind aspect of Megalith. This forced him to boost his attack rolls to be able to roll the normal two dice. The first attack hit, triggering the ‹ Weight of Stone › effect and causing 7 points of damage. With the second initial attack he caused 8 points of damage. With an also boosted additional attack he missed.

The Stalker trampeled towards Kreoss, suffering a free strike and 0 points of damage (the damage equaling the armor) from the Reclaimer, squishing one Chorister under his paws. With his claw attack on Kreoss he killed the Warcaster.

Debriefing

  • Bernd (Circle Oboros)

First of all I will respond to Matthias' conclusion: I don't think he would have won if he would have repositioned Kreoss to a safe position, but I think he still would have had a decent chance to win.

On the other hand, if he had killed the Stalker then he would have had a really good position and his agressive play would have been worth it...

In the end I think the biggest impact in this game was the deployment. I decided to deploy second because I wanted to see how much Matthias would commit to the flag.

As Matthias deployed his bastions and some solos near the flag I thought that it would be hard for me get in control of it. Therefore I decided to abandon the flag (and my right flank) completly. Now Matthias had a hard time to reposition his troops and my army gained a good advantage in the early stage of the game.

This game I think I only made one major mistake: I somehow thought that, after my Pureblood missed with his slam attack, that his activation was over. But I don't think this is the case. If I would have attacked the warjack I might have killed it and Matthias would have had no warjacks left.

Other than that I have to say that I had pretty hot dice that game and my damage rolls were all very high, so this time luck was on my side.

I hope we'll have a rematch soon, but then again with the infamous War Wolf :D

  • Matthias (Protectorate of Menoth)

The problem with having a numerical superiority over your opponent is, that it can become a problem to redeploy your troops and to not bunch up - which happened both in this game. In the center I bunched up and had several problems with moving. My left flank was pretty useless, the two solos not taking part, the Bastions getting two attacks among their number during the whole game.

Apart from loosing the Revenger immediately (not getting the shield crippled with the first attack could have helped), my right flank performed pretty well. I was able to use the Choir to prevent most attacks against the Exemplars, which in turn nearly annihilated the Bloodtrackers.

With three spells (which all failed to hit or wound), and a Reclaimer with five Soultokens, I hoped to take out the Stalker. This failed and in the end cost me Kreoss.

After the game we argued if it would have been better to move Kreoss towards my left flank instead of into the middle. This would have excluded my right flank from the effect of the Feat (probably costing me this flank), but Bernd thinks that with my second wave (Bastions and Solos) I would have won in the end. I think it was worth the risk. If the Stalker would have been killed...

Nevertheless it was good game. And finally Bernd did not bring his War Wolf again... it seems that I finally convinced Bernd of his (the Wolf's, not Bernd's) uselessness... :-)
