Bernd (Circle)
In the beginning, the game played out like the game we did before. I got my models in a good position, attacked and used my feat.
And again I lost by making a huge mistake: Kaya was visible to the Devout and due to his reach, he was able to kill her.
I really didn't think that Matthias would use his feat that turn, because the only things he could have been doing this turn was to kill the Argus (which I knew would happen anyway) and to attack something with his Devout. That his Devout would kill my beloved Kaya was not planned. ;o)
When I think of it now, it might have been better to sacrifice the Gorax by attacking the Devout. Then, I could have killed the Devout with the Stalker and moved the Stalker back with his animus. Thus, I would have lost the Argus and the Gorax next turn, but would have killed the Devout and the Repenter.
Most of my models performed good this game, with the exception of the War Wolf and the Shifting Stones. I think I need to have a couple more games in order to get the grip on them.
Matthias (Protectorate)
As in our last game, Bernd attacked with everything he had and then retreated using his Feat. I had no other alternative and again pressed forward, hoping to catch the 'beasts eventually. The Bastions again were at the front and sucked up the whole brunt of the Circle attack saving me any other casualties.
My model of the match certainly has to be the Devout. He first enganged the Warp Wolf Stalker. Now Bernd had to wreck the Devout, which the Stalker alone could have managed with good damage rolls and then be able to retreat with his Animus, or to send in a second beast. This would have been enough to remove the Devout, but would have left his 'beasts stranded for a counter attack by several models, including the Protectorate's main brawler, the Crusader.
Then the Devout had the chance to charge Laris. My intend was to kill Laris, to take the 'run Laris somewhere and teleport Kaya beside him' mumbo-jumbo. As I had used my Feat, he would be hit automatically. As I moved the Devout forward, I said I wanted him to move as far forward as he could get. When Bernd asked why, I said I wanted him to engage Kaya to constrict her movement abilities next turn. Then it dawned on me, that with the automatic hits this would be my best chance to cancel her high DEF. I then only used the compulsory one attack I need to allocate to my charge target on Laris, and used all the other attacks on her - which was just enough to get her :-)
As Bernd still had both his heavy warbeasts, he would probably have dealt significant damage in the next turn on my models, probably wrecking all my 'jacks.
But the good thing with Warmachine is, that the slightest negligence from your opponent can bring you victory where no-one expected it :-D
