Execution

The battlefield with deployed forces. Some days ago, a Khadoran patrol was annihalated by the Protectorate with artillery strikes. Sorscha was sent out to retaliate against the Menite Forces, but was suddenly intercepted by a Cryxian strike force.

Cryx Deployment.

mediaobject

[Khador Turn 1]

Sorscha allocated both 'jacks one Focus. She cast Fog of War. All other models ran forward.

mediaobject

[Cryx Turn 1]

Deneghra allocated one Focus to both the Defiler and the Nightmare. The Skarlock then advanced and cast Ghost Walk on the Defiler, who in turn ran his full 14" forward.

mediaobject

[Cryx Turn 1]

Deneghra advanced and casted a boosted ‹ Hell Mouth › through the Arc Node of the Defiler on the Winter Guard.

mediaobject

[Cryx Turn 1]

After moving the Winter Guards, all were under the template.

mediaobject

[Cryx Turn 1]

All Winter Guards were killed.

mediaobject

[Khador Turn 2]

Sorscha kept all her Focus, moved out of the woods, and cast ‹ Boundless Charge › on the Juggernaut. Then, she cast ‹ Wind Rush › on herself and moved up to the chapel. Then she feated. Next, she shot the Nightmare with her Cannon, which of course automatically missed as the Nightmare is stealthed. (Silly me...) Finally, the Defiler suffered 4 points of damage from Razor Wind.

The Juggernaut charged the Defiler and chopped it in half with one blow from his axe.

mediaobject

[Cryx Turn 2]

Deneghra allocated three Focus to the Nightmare and kept 4 for herself. Then she turned incorporeal. The Skarlock advanced and tried to cast ‹ Curse of Shadows › on the Juggernaut, but was out of reach. To compensate for the shortcomings of her Thrall, Deneghra also advanced, popped her feat and then cast ‹ Curse of Shadows › on the Juggernaut herself.

mediaobject

[Cryx Turn 2]

The Nightmare shook the stationary effect and charged the Juggernaut, which suffered 26 points of damage and a crippled cortex and movement system.

mediaobject

[Khador Turn 3]

All Focus was allocated by Sorscha to herself. No one was able to move because of Deneghra's feat.

The Juggernaut attacked the Nightmare, but only hit with his Ice Axe for 7 points of damage.

Sorscha cast Freezing Grip on the Mechanithralls, to stop them from acting in their next round. She then cast Windrush on herself. Although she was not allowed to move, she still got a DEF buff.

The Destroyer shot at the Nightmare but missed. The shot deviated and hit the Juggernaut, crippling it's right arm as well.

mediaobject

[Cryx Turn 3]

Deneghra allocated 3 Focus to the Nightmare and upkept her spells.

The Skarlock Thrall advanced as did Deneghra. She then cast Marked for Death on Sorscha, thus cancelling her DEF bonus from Wind Rush.

The Nightmare then moved and attacked Sorscha with a boosted to hit roll, rolling 1,1,2 which meant the first claw missed. The Tusks missed as well. The other Claw's to hit roll was also boosted and hit, causing 13 points of damage with a boosted damage roll.

mediaobject

[Khador Turn 4]

Sorscha kept 4 Focus and allocated 2 to the Destroyer.

The Destroyer slam power attacked the Nightmare, knocking him down thus disengaging him from Sorscha and freeing her to move without being targeted by free strikes.

Sorscha then cast Tempest on the forward Mechanithrall, hoping to get Deneghra into the blast and making her stationary. Unfortunately she was outside the blast radius by some milimeters... but at least the Mechanithrall was toast. As Deneghra was not stationary, chances to hit her with her high DEF were rather small, so Sorscha did not charge her, but moved behind the Destroyer and fired her cannon at the Nightmare, but was not able to penetrate his armour.

The Juggernaut then moved towards Deneghra and attacked her, but missed.

mediaobject

[Cryx Turn 4]

The Nightmare again got 3 Focus allocated. Deneghra upkept marked for Death on Sorcha, and then went incorporeal again.

The Mechanithralls charged the Juggernaut, easily marking his last remaining damage boxes. As the Juggernaut went down, the Nightmare choose a new prey, Sorscha.

mediaobject

[Cryx Turn 4]

Deneghra then moved and cast Curse of Shadows on the Destroyer. The Nightmare shook his KD, moved around the Destroyer and finished off Sorscha.

Debriefing

  • Cryx (Bernd)

This time I used the epic version of Deneghra, together with her pet, the Nightmare.

The Nightmare is very expensive regarding the points cost, but reach, higher MAT and +2 MAT / DMG due to prey really make him great for assassination runs. And in this game against Sorscha, his high MAT was really important due to her high DEF.

Other than that, Deneghra performed very good. Her spell ‹ Hellmouth › is devastating against infantry and she has the perfect spell list to set up the close combat assassination. And her feat really contributes by making the enemy not being able to move at all. Thus, you get an extra turn to outmaneuver your opponent.

  • Khador (Matthias)

This was my first game with Khador, and I really like the way Sorscha plays. Her feat requires LOS, but stationary is so much more effective than KD, especially on infantry. The Mechanithralls spent most of the game frozen in place, not able to do anything. The only problem Sorscha has is her relatively low Focus (6) and her two high cost spells (4 each). But with wind rush she is a very mobile caster.

Had Tempest on my fourth turn affected Denghra, I might even had a chance to win, which, after the early loss of my Winter Guards, I would not have thought of.
